Citadel Source are pleased to be partnering with a well-established and growing services business in the South West, currently looking to appoint a Payroll Assistant to join their friendly finance team.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with payroll bureau experience who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and takes pride in delivering an accurate and efficient payroll service. You'll play a key role in supporting the payroll function, ensuring employees are paid correctly and on time while maintaining compliance with current payroll legislation.
About you
You are an organised and detail-oriented payroll professional who has gained experience working within a payroll bureau, managing multiple payrolls and deadlines. You're confident working with payroll systems, enjoy problem-solving, and are passionate about providing an excellent service to both internal and external stakeholders. You thrive in a collaborative environment and take ownership of your work.
As a Payroll Assistant, your role will include, but not be limited to:
- Processing weekly and monthly payrolls accurately and within agreed deadlines
- Managing payroll administration including new starters, leavers, and contractual changes
- Processing statutory payments including SSP, SMP, SPP and SAP
- Calculating overtime, bonuses, commissions and salary adjustments
- Managing pension submissions and payroll reconciliations
- Ensuring payroll compliance with HMRC legislation and RTI submissions
- Responding to payroll-related queries from employees and managers
- Maintaining accurate payroll records and employee data
- Supporting month-end payroll reporting and reconciliations
- Assisting with year-end payroll activities including P60s and P11Ds where required
- Supporting continuous improvements to payroll processes and procedures
What the client is looking for
- Previous experience working within a payroll bureau is essential
- Experience processing multiple payrolls with varying pay frequencies
- Strong understanding of UK payroll legislation and HMRC requirements
- Excellent attention to detail and high levels of accuracy
- Confident using payroll software and Microsoft Excel
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
- Excellent communication skills and a customer-focused approach
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment
